What is a certified coach, actually?

By Natacha Ciezkowski

There are plenty of good coaches in our country. But how do you know which one is right for you? If you choose a coach who is certified, for example by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), you know you are in good hands. You are choosing sustainability, quality and certainty. A certified coach must meet a whole series of strict criteria and has years of training, evaluations and exams behind them.

What guarantees does an ICF certification offer?

An ICF Certified Coach

  • has received professional training in a programme specifically designed to teach coaching skills, in line with the ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics

  • has demonstrated, through supervision and oral and written exams, a deep understanding of applying the coaching competencies set by the ICF

  • has themselves been extensively guided through coaching and mentoring

  • keeps training continuously to broaden their own coaching toolbox

  • has many hours of practical experience

  • is required to renew the accreditation they have earned every three years

Coaching is not just a chat

Coaching is not talking for the sake of talking, but aims for fast and lasting results. There really is a 'before and after'. You have a challenge, you know where you want to get to, and together we look at what exactly is standing in the way of reaching your goal. All you have to do is be willing to face your strengths and weaknesses, search together for solutions to get around the obstacles ... and then go for it wholeheartedly.
